Honeysuckle plants are pretty resilient, but as is a new planting some kind of protection would be on the safe side, just protect the roots and not the entire plant, this can be done by putting down a layer coverage clippings or grass clippings or even old newspapers around the base of the plant may seem messy, but can be removed when the danger of freezing indeed.
