Black Sofa Love

As a child, I felt very embarrassed … because there was a fridge, a family and a nice house. I grew up in Jerusalem during the war and most of my friends came to terrible, really terrible camps in Siberia.

I always felt guilty that … I was so lucky. You could not buy anything, but My mother was incredible and all of creation itself.

I stayed in the interior design when … Ronnie Wood, asked me to design a nightclub him in Miami in the eighties. And never returned to London.

I always use … black, that is pure laziness.

If you are a designer … and working much with color, you do not get much color, as it interferes with what you are working.

Most of my walls are painted … pearl gray color, which works well with the sunlight of Miami. I have walls painted in a strange burnt orange hue.

Gray is … fantastic. Change of pink, purple, according to the time of day.

I've recently been bombarded with … BIBA design applications. My inspiration for my wallpaper prints BIBA actually came from the nostalgia of the public.

Wallpaper used to scare me hard … but now it is easy to put on and fall like tape. I used have to steam and scrape it off. It's great for covering old and cracked walls.

I was delighted … work on this project with Graham and Brown. Producing wonderful print and color palettes, and I love the fact that it occurred in the UK.

To wallpapers in Miami … you need to keep constant temperature air conditioning. It is very humid in my house, so can not have much of it. I would not be able to open a window or put me bubbles. Background screen has not yet been developed for this climate.

My advice is superior interior … have their bedroom in the space bigger and nice there. A bedroom should not be hidden. Do not save the best space for special occasions.

I never get rid of … my fifty chair that keeps getting re-upholstered. It silver at the moment, but I changed the cover of the same three or four times. I also love my huge doorstop seahorse I picked up in a scrap market.

Being caught in a hurricane … something extraordinary. You have no control, there is nothing you can do. You do not know where or how it was going to hit. I was on the beach when Hurricane Andrew struck and I thought I should head inside the tomato fields. Then the hurricane hit the tomato fields and the beach was good. You never know. It is a bet. I have a feeling there will be a major hurricane this year.

Since being beaten by Hurricane Katrina … I have moved to higher ground. When the Hurricane, was lying in my bed and think, my flat is looking very bright. It was covered with water.

It was scary when … my huge window broke in All I want now is Windows really hard.

Celebrities are … usually disappointing, and rarely interesting, since they are so in themselves. The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Bridget Bardot and Mia Farrow all came to my shop BIBA.

The greatest things in my life are … drawing and meet interesting people.

I admire … minimalism, but I need the clutter. I like having different shapes and colors for my eyes to focus on.

I am sick and tired of … entering a room and know that everything has come. In America, it seems that Armani Casa is very masculine with a white sofa in the room. It's mental.

Upgrading your home … Moving around frames and furniture on wheels, so you can move too.

My all-time favorite project was … Marlin hotel design in eighties by Chris Blackwell. He always gave me a blank canvas to design whatever I wanted.

Naomi Campbell, Grace Jones, Madonna … whatever, that all parties on the roof there – until the city banned the parties.

If my house was burning … I grabbed the pictures of my son, [my husband] Fitz, and my passport. Then I thought, 'great, I can start again. "
